Migrate from Google Cloud Connect to Google Drive App

Google Cloud Connect will be discontinued after April 30, 2013.

Google Cloud Connect was using Google Drive as the storage backend, and Google is recommending that you use Google Drive App as a replacement.

Google Drive is a web-based storage and Google Drive App allows you to sync files on your PC with Google Drive while sharing them with others as well.

The overall steps involve

1. Uninstall Google Cloud Connect
2. Download and install Google Drive App
3. Enter your account info into Google Drive App and determine folders to sync
4. Add items from "Shared with me" and "All items"(under "more" menu) to "My Drive".
(Only items in My Drive will be synced between your PC and Google Drive).

The details are as follows.
  1. Log out of and then uninstall Cloud Connect.
  2. Go to https://tools.google.com/dlpage/drive.
  3. Click the Download Google Drive for your PC button.
  4. Open googledrivesync.exe to automatically install and start Google Drive on your PC. (You may receive a warning that Google Drive is an application downloaded from the Internet. Click the Open button.)
  5. Enter your Google Account username and password in the window that opens. This will be the account associated with Google Drive for your PC.
  6. Complete the installation package instructions.
  7. Launch Google Drive for your PC from the Start menu. Drag files and folders into your Google Drive folder to begin syncing items to My Drive (part of Google Drive on the web).

If you’re having trouble signing into Google Drive on your PC, make sure that both cookies and Javascript are enabled in Internet Explorer and that the URLs that Drive for PC/Mac depends upon are listed as Trusted Sites in your IE settings.
  8. If you can't find shared documents in My Drive, then go to https://drive.google.com and log on.
  9. Click Shared with me or More->All items, and select shared documents. Then, click Add to My Drive or Organize->check My Drive->click Move button.
